Himchuli is a high peak situated at the height of 6,440 meters from sea level which lies in Annapurna range and is connected to Annapurna South forming massive south-facing the wall in the western side of Nepal. The peak is considered as a sacred mountain especially for the people of Gurung ethnicity. It was firstly summited in 1971 by American Peace Crops Expeditions under the leadership of Craig Anderson via southeast face. This peak is considered as a remarkable peak next to Annapurna South offering a wonderful view of the region. Trekking to this peak is considered to be difficult and can be climbed from the southeast and northwest face, but there is still the danger of rocks falling. This beautiful and wonderful trek offers a gorgeous view of the pasture lands, beautiful meadows, snowy peaks and explore local settlements with their own culture, traditions, and their lifestyles.
Himchuli Peak trek is one of the difficult destinations to trek on, not actually technically but due to some obstacle that may come suddenly. The trail leading towards the peak is relatively easy following the way in the Annapurna Sanctuary. Normally, Himchuli peak trek can be started from Phedi which can be reached with the comfortable drive from Pokhara valley. From Phedi, the trail follows the way through Tokla (1,950 meters), Jhinu (1,736 meters), Dovan (2,630 meters), Machhapuchhre Base Camp (4,130 meters), Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 meters), Himchuli Base Camp (6,300 meters) and finally to Himchuli High Camp at the altitude of 6,440 meters from sea level. From the summit of the peak, the trail leads the way towards Annapurna Base Camp, Bamboo (2,340 meters), Chhomrong (2,040 meters), Ghandruk (1,950 meters) and finally to Nayapul completing the trekking trail. From Nayapul, you can have a drive to Pokhara Valley.
However, the Himchuli Peak trekking receives less attention of tourists comparatively despite being really amazing with lots of offerings. You can also experience three base camps before reaching the summit of the peak. This journey offers you with fascinating views of mountains, different variety of forest which seems to be attractive and eye-catchy, gorgeous grassland, lakes, waterfalls, and beautiful cultural villages. The trail follows the way through Annapurna Sanctuary up to Hinko and climbs a very steep hillside to grassy meadows to establish the base camp to climb the peak from the normal route. To make this journey easy and successful, trekkers must have good physical condition leading you to explore the beauty of nature and natural wilderness and experience the culture and lifestyle of the Highlanders.
