Chhukung Ri Peak Climbing

Mt. Chhukung Ri is one of the most demanding climbing peaks, situated at the elevation of 5,550 meters above sea level in most popular Khumbu Region of Nepal. This peak is group ‘A’ categorized climbing peak by Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and popularly known for its best scenic and mountain sceneries, which is climbed by very few climbers and undoubtedly considered as one of the unpopular peaks to be climbed. In addition, Chhukung Ri peak is one of the popularly known KHUMBU THREE PEAKS, where Pokalde and Island peak are the other two peaks. Despite of less popularity of the peak, Chhukung Ri base camp is considered as one of the best trekking hub in Nepal as well as throughout the world.

Being infrequently climbed peak but in actual Chhukung Ri is the most easier peak to climb lagging any technical difficulties and challenges and is best suited for beginner mountaineers. The main attraction of this peak climbing trip is to enjoy with scenic and mountain views like Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Makalu, Baruntse, Ama Dablam, Cholaste, Thamserku, Kantega and Tawache peak.

Trekking Route

Chhukung Ri Peak Climbing trip starts with a scenic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu valley, as usual, while trekking in Khumbu Region. From Lukla, Chhukung Ri trekking trail passes through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tyangboche Gompa, Dingboche Village, Tyangboche, Chhukung Base Camp (4,730 meters) and finally to the summit of the peak at the elevation of 5,550 meters above sea level. The descending trail from peak of the mountain follows the way passing through Lobuche, Gorakshep, Kalapattar, Phortse Village, Namche Bazaar, Phakding and finally Lukla again, the starting point of this trip. From Lukla airport, a comfortable flight will take you back to Kathmandu valley.

Best Season

Moreover, the best time for Chhukung Ri Peak trek is autumn (September – November) and spring (March-May), for more exploration, easiness and more exploration of the journey.
