Bajrabarahi Temple

Bajrabarahi Temple is one of four popular temples (other three are Nailbarahi temple, Swet-barahi temple, and Dhumbarahi temple) of the tantric goddess located in a small forest of Chapagaun village of Lalitpur district of central Nepal. The temple’s structure is artistic as the temple is built in Nepalese style with two roofs (first one is made up of tiles and the second is made by metal plates. Bajra Barahi (also worshipped as Matrika) and considered as the consort of Asta Bhairav. Although the present structure of the temple was constructed in the 17^th century, the temple is seen to be old which is constructed by using Torans and Structs which gives great artistic value to the temple and there are stone sculptures of two lions which are said to be the guardians of the temple. The previous structure of the temple was believed to be constructed in 784 BS by Shrinewas Malla according to legend and believed that goddess Bajrabarahi was incarnated from the pond where the present temple is situated.

Beside the significance of the temple, the area of the temple is surrounded by a huge forest which is also a famous spot for bird watching. The temple is situated in a naturally beautiful place which still has the untouched beauty of nature and wildlife as about 48 species of birds and around 166 species of flora including rare orchids could be found here. Parrots, Bengal green pigeon, black Drongo, Barbet, Eagle, etc. are some of the birds found here which provides pleasant pleasure for watching them and their behavior. The place is also considered as a famous research center for the students of environmental science. The area is quiet except for the chirpings of the birds and regarded as one of the peaceful areas near Kathmandu valley.

Moreover, Bajrabarahi Temple area is not famous with religious values and significances but has equal natural and environmental values. The area also features a picnic spot for spending a good holiday for its visitors. In addition, many of the pilgrims or visitors got surprised by seeing the farmers carrying bottles of milk to offer it to the goddess. The reason behind it is, they believe that if they offer the first milk after birth from their buffalos, then buffalos would get pregnant every year and give lots of milk.
