Chhabdi Barahi Temple Tanahun

Chhabdi Barahi Temple ( Mandir) is a holy temple situated in a hilly forest located in Tanahun district of western Nepal. It is said that Chhabdi Barahi and Dhor Barahi temples are sisters and both are religious temples according to Hindu mythology. The temple is dedicated to Fish Headed Goddess, which is known about two hundred years ago. Before the existence of the temple, the local people over there go fishing to this site and one day a fired arrow to fish mistakenly stuck in the rock and suddenly blood appears on it. After this incident, fishing was stopped to this site, instead, a small shrine was constructed to this site which is well known as Chhabdi Barahi Temple in these days.

Animal offering or sacrifice is most common in this temple which is carried out for impressing the goddess. The Chhabdi (Fish-headed) goddess is worshipped by both Buddhists and Hindus and Hindu people mostly make blood sacrifices in order to get the blessing from her. Near the entrance of the shrine, head of a duck (at Rs.50), Sheep (at Rs.300), Goat (at Rs.70), Hen (at Rs.100) and Buffalo (at Rs.550) is available as the offering to the goddess. In addition, there are plenty of shops around the temple where you can buy Pujas materials and have a meal and give a try for a local taste after your worshipping.

Moreover, Chhabdi Barahi Temple is also a popular picnic destination among the youths nowadays. You can have a very good time during a picnic session near the temple. You also can enjoy the waterfall which is just on the back side of the temple.
