Daman, Nepal

Daman (दामन) is one of the most beautiful and attractive tourist destination situated at the elevation of 2,322 meters from the sea level which is about 77 kilometers south west from Kathmandu valley located in Thaha municipality of Makwanpur district of central Nepal. Daman is surrounded by tropical forests and the middle hills of Nepal, and lies on the Mahabharat range offering the magnificent and gorgeous views of the world’s highest peaks extending from Dhaulagiri in the west to Mount Everest in the east. Trekkers or hikers also can enjoy colorful hills full of Rhododendrons, and orchids blooming alongside of the highway in the month of March and April.

Daman hike/trek begins from the Kathmandu Valley with about 4 hours of drive to Daman Valley. Hiking in Daman village lead to enjoy exploring and walking around the nature and landscapes and meeting with a monk to learn about the holy site of Rimburje. Furthermore, climb Daman’s viewpoint tower for a panoramic view which looks at 300 miles of the Himalayan range that totally strikes the mind and heart. Daman is also a famous hill station for gorgeous sunrises and sunsets and the magnificent view of the Himalayan range. After finishing all the sightseeing you can get back to Daman city and you can take a few minutes guided hike in the jungle which provides mesmerizing sounds of the native birds which feels much good and peaceful to be there for some time.

Moreover, snowfall occurs in the hills of this area which seems very pretty and beautiful during winter season. There is a religious site nearby named as Risheshor Mahadev Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is said that when Lord Shiva was mourning carrying dead body of his beloved wife Satidevi, he rested here and being so thirsty he just hit the big rock with his weapon (Trisula in Nepali) and water came out. We can still see the water flowing in between the big rocks. There is a beautiful botanical garden which is one of the biggest and oldest botanical garden in Nepal consisting of different varieties of Rhododendron.
