Davis Falls (Patale Chango) Pokhara

Davis Falls (also known as Patale Chango Nepali, which means underworld waterfall) is a famous waterfall in Nepal located in beautiful city Pokhara, Kaski. Earlier in 1961, a Swiss couple Davi went swimming and the women were drowning in a pit because of overflow. Her body was recovered after 3 days with great effort and her father wished to name that fall as “Davi’s fall”. The water from this fall forms an underground tunnel after reaching to the bottom and tunnel is approximately 150m long and runs 30m below the ground level and passes through the cave called Gupteshwor Mahadev (the cave beneath the ground).

The fall is attractive place for local as well as foreign tourists. Thousands of Nepali people come to visit this for recreation and enjoyment purpose and also try their luck on luck pond by throwing or placing the coin on the statue of god. Traditional typical Nepali house model with series of statue of Nepali people wearing traditional dress also attracts visitors and are allowed to take photograph over there. As this fall was considered as a suicide point as many tourists and locals jumped from the cliff down to the bottom of fall, safety measures are applied by constructing metal fences around the cliff for preventing any more suicides.

Mahendra cave is a nearby and famous place which is situated very near to Davis Falls and the cave is dedicated to God Shiva and is religious significance of Hindu’s. Phewa Lake is another and most important attraction of Pokhara city which attracts many tourists here by its name.So, visit to the place with beautiful sceneries and historical importance is the best way to explore the place and spend your holidays.
