Kakrebihar Surkhet

Kakrebihar is a Hindu-Buddhist temple which is situated over a small mountain which lies in Latikoili VDC in Surkhet district of Nepal. The temple is made by solid stone with attractive bronze Idols of Hindu gods and goddess along Buddha and believed to be built on 12th centuary. The place is also referred to as ‘Buddha Bihar’ which means, Buddha’s place or area, and is famous for its own natural beauty. The temple has a shape like seed of cucumber thus it is called Kakrebihar and it’s yet the mythological value about its name.

The main attraction of Karkebihar includes the good sceneries of green jungle and various species of birds and this place attracts people of different community from different part of country for Karkebihar trekking and to see its rich art. Many of the sagas of Karkebihar is famous among the people living in this area and local villagers also said that “the Pandavas” (heroes of Mahabharata) come to this area and built cottage for their living and passed their Banbas Period. Moreover, the place is getting famous day by day in different foreign countries especially Buddhist countries like Japan, China and Tibet and many archeologists from these countries are visiting KakreBihar and trying to find more facts about its art and importance.
