Kanchenjunga is the third highest mountains in the world which are situated at the elevation of 8,586 meters from the sea level and is the second highest (after Mt. Everest) in Nepal. The name of this high peak is also spelled as Kang-Chen-Zod-nga, which means five great treasuries of the snow. Its beautiful high peak lies between Nepal and Sikkim, India, with three of the five peaks directly towards the border side, and the remaining two (namely as West and Kangbachen) in Taplejung district of Nepal. The peak is surrounded by a spectacular National park with rich natural and cultural diversity. This mountain was believed to be a sacred mountain and is most famous for its unspoiled beauty. Trekking in Kanchenjunga Base Camp is comparatively peaceful than Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp, which lies in the pure and most beautiful form of nature.
The journey towards Kanchenjunga starts from Kathmandu valley from where you can reach Biratnagar via a flight. From Biratnagar, it is only about 15 minutes of flight to reach Suketar. The actual trekking to Kanchenjunga Base Camp starts from Suketar. From here, you will be heading through the forest filled with beautiful birds towards a village of Mitlung. The trail follows from here are Chirwa, Sekathum, Amjilosa, Gyabla to Ghunsa. Ghunsa is a beautiful and attractive Tibetan village offering various attractive things to view and explore on. The continuing from this village will lead to Kambachen and further to Lhonak and Pang Pema Camp. Pang Pema lies opposite the head of the glacier, from where the first full view of the north faces of the mountain can be observed. Continuing the trail towards Kambechen, Ghunsa, Phale, Amjilosa, Chirwa, Likhim and finally to Suketar. The overall journey throughout the trekking is full of wonders, discovery, sometimes thrilling and adventurous of course.
However, trekking in Kanchenjunga Base Camp is considered to be a daredevil trekking destination in Nepal, allowing you to explore both the southern and northern base camp of this third highest mountain throughout the world. The most unique, incredible and fascinating experience you can obtain in this journey is traveling through the high passes with the most incredible views of the Pyramid peak, Wedge peak, the Twin peak, and Tent peak.
