Nardevi Temple

Nardevi Temple is a beautiful three storey pagoda styled temple one of the roofs plated in gold and its crafted pillars indicating the temple is located in Basantapur near Chhatrapati of Kathmandu valley. There is a lineup of many other temples too in this area, but the temple is easily recognizable with its unique and attractive structure. The temple is believed to have established in the 9^th century by Gunakamadev, who is also the founder of Kathmandu. The temple is dedicated to goddess Swetakali (also known as Neta Ajima by Newar people). The temple structure is very attractive which houses three silver statues of Kali. Local people believe that the original home of the goddess (called as Byachen) still exists in the area, where all the ornaments and clothes of the goddess are secured.

Nardevi is considered to be a powerful deity of tantric rituals and has great respect and faith on her by Hindu people. Khadga Jatra is celebrated on the tenth day of Dasain to celebrate the victory of good over evil. This is one of the most valued and respected traditions for the people having faith in the Hindu religion. Different kinds of swords are taken to the temple in this grand event and revered with traditional tantric rituals. The sacrifice of buffalo, slain in a single blow, marks the event of Nawami (9th day of Dashain). In addition, various types of tantric pujas are also done in the temple and people believed to get power, courage, spirits by doing worship of puja of Nardevi Temple.
