Naxal Bhagwati Temple

Naxal Bhagwati Temple is a beautiful religious Hindu temple dedicated to goddess Bhagwati (Durga) located at the center of Naxal town surrounded by Pashupatinath, Dillibazar and Narayanhiti museum in Kathmandu valley of Nepal. The temple is considered as the most famous pilgrimage site which is visited by hundreds of devotees every day from an earlier time.  It is believed that worshipping to the goddess in this temple with faith would never suffer from any kind of problems or difficulties. The main attraction of this temple is Devi is goddess temple its three tied red roof, two of which are copper plated and carving of other deities surrounding all over the temple. The temple stands straight and distinct and a bit far away from nearby shops and concrete buildings.

Naxal Bhagwati temple is believed to be dated from the mid of 10^th century of Kaligat Sambat when Bikram Kesari was the king of Nepal and his wife Navasagar used to handle the administration of the country. The queen once was presented by grand idol for one of her subjects, which impresses her so much that she founded the temple and named the idol after herself, as Navasagar Bhagwati. It is also believed that the priests and mystics of that time had laid a solid foundation of the temple through tantric rituals and mantras so as to empower the goddess. The main intention of the priests for those kinds of activities was to fulfill a belief that any ritual performed in the temple with the exact method (bidi, in Nepali) would be accomplished at any cost.

Nevertheless, Naxal Bhagwati is considered to be of the nine demonstrations of the goddess Durga and also indicated as a Shakti Peethas. This temple has got great value and receives great celebration of Vijaya Dashami, especially on the ‘Ashtami’ (The eighth day of Dashain). A water buffalo sent by the Singh Durbar is sacrificed thereon Nawami the Ninth day of the Dashain. Dashain is the greatest festival celebrated in Naxal Bhagwati temple where devotees do a great puja and worship the Bhagwati goddess.
