Savapokhari

Savapokhari is the natural pond having its own religious values located in Sankhuwasava district in the lap of Lumba Sumba Mountain. The pond is situated at the altitude of 4,240 meter from sea level. According to Hindu mythology, a wise ascetic namely Byasa once had organized a gathering of all 88 thousand sages, saints and ascetics in the middle of the pond and gave speech on how human can obtain peace in life and make their way to heaven after death. From that event the pond is named as Savapokhari (a meeting pond). The place has got its extreme natural beauty and landscape which is also a good place for trekking.

However, there still exists the place where Byasa sit for the mythological speech and is believed that if any people bath in that pond gets their wish fulfilled and also childless couple will get child if they bath and pray here with pure heart in this pond. Nevertheless, the place also has its own natural importance and considered as best place for trekking beside religious importance. People travel to this place Basantapur of Tehrathum by enjoying the natural sceneries and beauties crossing Chauki, Gufa Pokhari and Milke (where twenty five different types of Rhododendron can be found). Yak grazing on the green hills, snowcapped mountain attracts everyone along with white cloud playing hide and seek with green land.

From the pond, great view of different places as Taplejung, Panchthar, Bhojpur, Tehrathum and Khotang can be observed in clear day and feels like a small heaven in the earth. As the pond sits on the lap of white Makalu Mountain, it is one of the most attractive place to be visited and considered as best destination for nature lovers.
