Sinja Valley is located in Jumla district of western Nepal. This site is considered as one of the most historically as well as culturally important place which contains the archaeological evidence of the capital city of the Khas Kingdom of 12th to the 14th century. The Sinja Valley was where the Nepali language originates from and the earliest examples of the Devanagari script from the 13th Century were found on the cliffs and in nearby Dullu. Sinja Valley, in 2008 was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in the Cultural category. Palaces, temples, and the ancient remains of a settlement were detected during excavations by the Department of Archaeology at Cambridge University. A large network of underground pipes and the ring of massive monolithic stone columns are the major things which were found from this site.
Excavations in this site had revealed and uncovered many historically, culturally and religiously importance sites including old palaces, temples (Kanak Sundari, Tripura Sundari) and the old settlement. Earthen pipes were excavated testifying to an elaborate water supply system. Across from the Hima River, there are caves with ancient votive Buddhist chaityas and cliff inscriptions. Even today the ancient rites of the Masto (Shamans) are practiced in many of the stone Dewals or temples. Sinja Valley Trek is an ideal opportunity for trekkers of different kinds as there opportunity for both nature lovers with the extreme beauty of Rara Lake and trek lovers offering a remarkable walk in the wilderness of remote side.
