Surma Sarovar Lake ( Trekking )

Surma Sarovar Lake ( Trekking ) (also known as Mini Kailash by Hindus) is a holy lake which is situated at an altitude of 4,333m in Bajhang district of western part of Nepal. This is the holistic place but also equally adventurous journey in western Nepal with beautiful view of Holy Lake, mountains peaks like Jethi Bahurani, huge grasslands and a lot of flora and fauna. As high pass of 4859 meters need to be crossed to reach this place, the trekkers need to be cautious of high altitude sickness.

The major attraction of this place is the stone temple of Surma Devi and she is believed to be one of the 16 sisters of Nava Durga Bhagwati. According to the myth,the Goddess had chosen this place as her home as the place is clean, quiet and far away from human settlements. Janai Purnima is the main festival in the honor of Goddess Surma Devi and large number of people gathers in this holy place during that period and takes holy bathe. After taking a holy dip in this sacred lake, pilgrims generally walk down to Niksari Patan. Many small streams, including the Sunigadh which drains the Surma Sarovar, converge at Niksari Patan and become a big river which also offers plenty of camping sites.

Beside its religious significances, the area is also rich in flora as beautiful wild flowers, poisonous flowers/plants, herbs/spices and fauna like small black Bear and barking deer and different types of pheasants including the Himalayan Monal are a common sight in this place. Likewise, great experience of unique culture and tradition of the local people, and taste their traditional cuisines with cultural attractions like Deuda, Fag and Magal which are hymns in the name of Goddess Surma Devi can be explored and hence promoting trekking to this area.
