Tilicho Lake

Tilicho Lake is the high altitude lake situated at the elevation of 4,919 meters in Manang district in Annapurna range of the Himalayas of Nepal. The lake sometimes called as the highest lake in the world for its size. Tilicho Lake trek is the famous trekking destination of Nepal and a popular side hikes of Annapurna circuit trek. The lake has its own significance from a religious point of view. Hindu people believed the lake as ancient Kak Bhusundi Lake, which is also mentioned in Ramayana. The lake is surrounded by beautiful mountains including Khangsar, Muktinath peak, Nilgiri and Tilicho peak. This beautiful trek offers various majestic panoramic views, a great variety of culture and diversity, the finest deep valleys and high mountains encircling the giant Annapurna Himal. You can visit a wide variety of people belonging to the different ethnic group in the villages leading towards the destination.

Tilicho Lake, being the holy spot of Hinduism, Hindu pilgrims all around the world gathers here. The trek is considered moderate to adventurous level trekking according to grade system of trekking. Normally, Tilicho Lake trek starts from Besisahar (830 meters) which is about 8 hours of drive from Kathmandu valley. From Besisahar, the trail follows the way through Bahundanda (1,310 meters), Chamje (1,400 meters), Bagarchhap (2,160 meters), Chame (2,630 meters), Pisang (3,300 meters), Manang (3,540 meters), Khangsar village (3,700 meters), Tilicho Base Camp (4,200 meters) and finally to Tilicho Lake with lots of exploration and sightseeing. You will be further trekking down to Tilicho Base Camp (4,200 meters), Yak Kharka (4,000 meters), Thorong Phedi (4,450 meters), Muktinath (3,800 meters) via Thorong La pass (a famous pass at the elevation of 5,416 meters) and finally towards Jomsom (2,500 meters). From Jomsom, you can take a flight to Pokhara valley.

However, Tilicho Lake trek covers most of the attractive trails in the western part of the country and considered as one of the best trekking trails in Nepal. The major highlights of this trek include adventurous walk towards the highest lake in the world, unbelievable mountain views of Annapurna I, Manaslu and Dhaulagiri, passing through one of the highest pass, Tibetan culture exploration and visiting ancient Buddhist monasteries and beautiful Manang village. The best time to make the journey towards Tilicho Lake are (February to March) and (September to November).
