Pokalde Peak is one of the high peaks situated at the elevation of 5,806 meters above the sea level in most beautiful Khumbu Region of Nepal. It is group ‘B’ categorized climbing peak by NMA, which can be considered one of the difficult peak to be climbed. The first ascent to the peak was made in 1953 through the cliff connecting the peak with Kongma La Pass. In fact, you can reach to the top of the peak without requiring any kind of climbing equipment which usually requires in other peak climbing trail but faces lots of challenges and obstacles like loose rocks, where your mountaineering experience works. Hence, it is very essential to have mountaineering experiences before making your journey towards the peak. Furthermore, as usual in each and every peak climbing, physical and mental fitness is the most at this peak climbing too.
Moreover, the base camp of the peak is created at the valley just below the Kongma La Pass, situated at the elevation of 5,535 meters above sea level. The valley has a turquoise glacial lake in the middle, which seems much attractive and beautiful. From Base Camp of the peak, the summit is just above 650 meters. You can enjoy the mesmerizing views of the snow-capped peaks like Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Mt. Lhotse and many others in the Everest range from the summit of the peak. This amazing trip also allows you to explore around old Tyangboche monastery and Pangboche monastery, beautiful Namche Bazaar, Khumjung village, and Pangboche village during this trek.
Trekking Route
Pokalde Peak Climbing journey starts with a scenic flight to Lukla, as usual in most of the journey in Khumbu Region of Nepal. From Lukla, you can start your actual trek. The trek started from Lukla follows the way passing through Pokalde , Namche Bazaar, Everest View Hotel (Hike and back to Namche Bazaar), Tengboche, Pheriche, Lobuche, Gorakshep, hike to Everest Base Camp and Kala Pattar and again back to Lobuche, Pokalde Base Camp trek (4,400 meters) via Kongma La Pass (5,535 meters), High Camp (5,000 meters) and finally to the summit of the peak at 5,806 meters. From the summit of the peak, trek back to Chhukung, Tengboche, Monjo and finally Lukla. Lukla is the finishing point of this trek. From Lukla, a scenic flight will take you back to Kathmandu valley.
Best Season
Nevertheless, the best season to make your journey to Pokalde Peak is autumn (September, October, and November) and spring (March, April, and May). you are presented with more exploration and best views during this time.
