Mt. Chekigo is one of the demanding peaks in Rolwaling Region of Nepal, which is group ‘A’ categorized climbing peak by NMA, officially permitted for mountaineers in late 2002. The peak is situated proudly at the elevation of 6,143 meters, which was firstly climbed by Bruce Normand (United Kingdom) and Oliver Rotz (Switzerland) in 2005 through the west face of the peak. Mt. Chekigo lies in Gaurishankar conservation area in between Khumbu and Rolwaling valleys and is one of the rarely climbed peaks in Nepal. The peak is one of the most beautiful peaks which is surrounded by most popular peaks all around which includes Mt. Gaurishankar (7,134 meters), Mt. Dragkar Go (6,793 meters) and Mt. Bishep Go Sher (6,729 meters).
However, being one of the rare and least climbed peaks in the world, you can make your journey in unfrequented and off the beaten trail with lots of adventures and explorations. In addition, one of the major highlights of this peak climbing journey is passing through Tashi Lapsta La Pass (5,755 meters), which is one of the highest passes in the Himalayas, offering a mesmerizing panorama of Mt. Chekigo itself and its all surrounding peaks, which is really gazing in actual.
Moreover, as the journey is in higher elevation, climbers should pass through a snowy trail, ice and rocks, which are much challenging, filled with excitements and fears. Hence, this journey is completely for adventure seekers ready to face some obstacles and challenges for more experience in his/her life. As usual in every Himalayas journey, physical and mental fitness is the most along with higher elevation climbing/trekking experiences.
Climbing Route
The journey of Chekigo Peak Climbing starts with a drive to Shigati from Kathmandu valley. From Shigati, trek through Jagat, Simi Gaun, Daldung La, Beding, Chekigo Base Camp and finally to the summit of the peak. It is estimated that the climbing period lasts for 10 days from base camp – summit – base camp. Furthermore, from the base camp of the peak, trek back to Beding, Simi Gaun, Jagat and finally Shigati again, from where you can get back to Kathmandu valley via drive as previous.
